The jury of the youngsters of the Ghent Film Festival gives the Mine Xplore Award to the Israelian film Ajami of the directors Scandar Copti & Yaron Shani. The distributor will get a free media campaign in the daily De Morgen and on the radio Studio Brussel with a value of 20.000 euro and an amount of 6.000 cash money given by Mine/BNP Paribas Fortis. A L'ouest de Pluton received a Special Mention.

Ajami is one of the films in the XploreZone section, a selection of 18 films from Competition, World Cinema and Festival Previews. The jury of five members has decided that Ajami deserves the Mine Xplore Award for the following reason : "The film is an immersion into life in the Israeli Ajami neighbourhood where Christians, Muslims and Jews are fighting for their survival. A moving mosaic film with realistic characters and a well developed plot. The directors Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani put our nose on the socio political situation in Israel in a convincing and non-teaching way.
