Director Walter Hill to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award

Award-winning director Walter Hill will receive the prestigious Joseph Plateau Award at the upcoming Flanders International Film Festival. The Joseph Plateau Life Time Achievement Award, considered the festival's highest honor, recognizes Hill's achievement in Filmmaking as a writer, director and producer, and will be presented during the 34th edition of the festival in Ghent, Belgium (October 9th - 20th).
World Soundtrack Academy honours Theodorakis with Lifetime Achievement Award

The Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the distribution of the World Soundtrack Awards on 20 October. Darfur documentary will open Almost Cinema

Almost Cinema spends twelve days on the border between film, media art and music. This joint project between Vooruit Arts Centre & Ghent Film Festival will start on October 9 with the screening of Sand & Sorrow on Darfur, followed by a concert with Sudanese refugee singer Rasha.

The 34th edition of the Ghent International Film Festival kicks off on Tuesday October 9 featuring not one but 3 movies. Closing the Ring, a very strong European première opens the section Festival Previews in the presence of Lord Richard Attenborough. The same evening the competition is launched with Die Fälscher by Stefan Ruzowsky and in Vooruit the section Almost Cinema is opened with the movie Sand & Sorrow, a documentary about the Darfur genocide.
UNICEF ambassador Danny Glover at 34th Film Festival Ghent

Actor Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, Beloved, Manderlay) will attend the upcoming Film Festival Ghent (9-20 October) as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. The Film Festival Ghent is one of the 'Events for UNICEF', which support the children's fund structurally. Glover, who is going to introduce the film Bamako, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his entire career.

The 34th edition of the Flanders International Film Festival-Ghent kicks off with the preview of Sicko today. Tomorrow the festival will open officially with two wows: the European première of Closing The Ring, in the presence of director Lord Richard Attenborough and the première of Die Fälscher in the presence of actress Dolores Chaplin, granddaughter of sir Charles Chaplin. The entire jury and its president Mrs. Kathleen Turner will be present on the opening night, along with many other well-known national and international personalities.

The 34th Ghent Film Festival (October 9-20) opens this year with no less than three films. Closing the Ring by Lord Richard Attenborough opens the Festival Previews section, Die Fälscher by Stefan Ruzowitzky the Official Competition and Sand and Sorrow by Paul Friedman ‘Almost Cinema’ in Vooruit. The festival closes with It’s a Free World by Ken Loach.

Yesterday the 34th Ghent Film Festival opened officially under massive media attention. The festival previews on the opening night, Closing the Ring and Die Fälscher, were attended by many prominent guests, amongst whom the President of the Festival Jury Kathleen Turner, director Lord Richard Attenborough and actrice Dolores Chaplin.

The actrice Kathleen Turner was the true star on the red carpet yesterday. She will be presiding the international jury of this 34th edition of the Ghent Film Festival. In the coming week, she and her fellow members of the jury will carefully watch and assess the 12 competition films. The winners will be announced on Wednesday 17 October. In this movie, Ms. Turner talks about what she will be paying special attention to when assessing the films.
