Actor Danny Glover receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Actor and Unicef Ambassador Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, Beloved, Manderlay) received on Monday a Joseph Plateau Lifetime Achievement Award for his rich career. Glover came to Ghent to present Bamako, a film the festival showed because of it's partnership with Unicef. Click here to watch a clip of the award ceremony.

Die Fälscher wins the 34th edition of the Ghent International Film Festival

Die Fälscher by Stefan Ruzowitzky wins the Grand Prize for Best Film at the 34th Ghent International Film Festival. The international jury, under the chairmanship of Kathleen Turner, announced the winners on Wednesday 17th at the Ghent city hall. After the ceremony Kathleen Turner received a Joseph Plateau Lifetime Achievement Award for her career.

At the Seville Film Festival the European Film Academy and EFA Productions announced the nominations for the 20th European Film Awards. The 1,800 EFA Members will now vote for the winners which will be presented during the Awards Ceremony on 1 December in Berlin.

The 20th European Film Award winners were announced at the Arena in Berlin on Dec. 1, 2007. In attendance at the Berlin ceremony were veterans Liv Ullmann, Jeanne Moreau, and Wim Wenders, among others. Actors Emmanuelle Béart and Jan Josef Liefers are hosting the event.
Cristian Mungiu's abortion drama 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days won the European Film Award for best European film.
'This Is England' bought for Belgian release by A-Film

Benelux-rights to Ghent competition title This Is England have recently been bought by independent Amsterdam- and Antwerp based distributor A-Film. The film was presented during the previous edition of the Flanders Int'l Film Festival, and was the best scoring (at that time) non-distributed title in the audience poll. The film will get its Belgian release on February 20th, 2008.
The Wall Street Journal: Ghent ranked among the top European film festivals

According to the prestigious American business daily, The Wall Street Journal, the Ghent Film Festival is among the top five European film festivals with character, largely due to its particular focus on film music compared with major festivals such as Cannes, Venice and Berlin. This accolade from a newspaper that is also popular in the business world adds to the compliment paid by the film trade magazine Variety when it stated that Ghent was among the fifty "must attend" film festivals worldwide.
