Joseph Plateau Honorary Award for Parkes and MacDonald

Producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will be honored with the Joseph Plateau Honorary Award at the upcoming 35th Ghent International Film Festival. This prestigious award will be presented to Parkes and MacDonald at a gala ceremony on October 11th. 3-time Oscar nominee Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald have produced or executive produced over 30 films together including Best Picture Oscar winner Gladiator, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, Awakenings, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Amistad, Terminal, the Men in Black series and the Golden Globe winning adaptation of Stephen Sondeheim's musical thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Ghent Film Festival puts Harold Lloyd in the spotlight

For the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), American silent film actor Harold Lloyd will be back under the spotlight, with an exhibition and a retrospective of newly restored films. The exhibition, co-organised by the Province of East Flanders, will be on view from 10 October to 21 December 2008 at the Carmelite Friary - Provincial Centre of Art and Culture in Ghent. Sue Lloyd, the late actor's granddaughter and manager of his legacy, will be attending the exhibition opening.

The Ghent International Film Festival has just announced that Woody Harrelson will be attending the 35th edition of the festival. The actor, best known for his roles in Cheers, Natural Born Killers, The People vs Larry Flynt and No Country for Old Men, will be in Ghent on Wednesday 15 October to present Transsiberian.

The 35ste edition of the Ghent Film Festival opens on 7 October with The Visitor by Tom McCarthy. It is a very warm, humane and at times touching film that critically looks into the immigration politics in the United States. The full programme of the festival will be announced on 24 September.

Four festival films nominated for European Discovery 2008

As part of the European Film Awards, the European Film Academy annually presents the award European Discovery to a young and upcoming director for a first full-length feature film. This year's nominations are Hunger (Steve McQueen), Snow (Aida Begic), Summer Book (Seyfi Teoman) and Tulpan (Sergey Dvortsevoy). These films are also being screened at the Ghent International Film Festival.
