The 35th edition of the Ghent International Film Festival has officially started

The 35th edition of the Ghent International Film Festival has officially started with the premiere of The Visitor in the six screening rooms of Kinepolis in Ghent and Young@Heart at Vooruit. The three main actors of the film The Visitor namely Richard Jenkins, Danai Gurira and Haaz Sleiman, the International Jury and the actor Woody Harrelson were there! Jenkins received a Joseph Plateau Honorary Award for his career. Woody Harrelson will present this Wednesday his new film Transsiberian.

The 35th edition (7-18 October 2008) of the Ghent Film Festival, dedicated to the recently deceased Hugo Claus, opens with The Visitor by Thomas McCarthy and closes with Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler.

The first belgian film on the festival programme was in premiere : Unspoken by Fien Troch! On the 12th of October two other belgian films will go in premiere : Vinyan by Fabrice du Welz, in presence of Emmanuelle Béart, and also Elève Libre by Joachim Lafosse.

The American actor Woody Harrelson presented his last film Transsiberian at the 35th Ghent International Filmfestival. He also received a Joseph Plateau Honorary Award, given by the actor Richard Jenkins (The Visitor).

The 35th edition of the Ghent International Film Festival has a record! In total there are 75.000 tickets sold of which 35.000 were sold at the anniversary price of 5 euro! The sales of the tickets has gone up by 12 % compared to last year. The reactions of the public are mainly positive and the media covering is larger than ever!
Finding Home Best Flemish Student Short Film

The documentary Finding Home by Christopher Daley (KASK) has won the ACE-price for Best Flemish Student Short Film at the 35th Ghent Film Festival. Minister Bert Anciaux has given the price on this Monday evening at the Vooruit. The price includes a premium of 2.000 euro for the director and a postproduction premium of 7.500 euro.
Songes d'une Femme de Ménage Best Belgian Short

Songes d'une Femme de Ménage by Banu Akseki has won the National Lottery Price for Best Belgian Short Film. The director receives a premium of 5.000 euro. Jazzed by Anton Senola receives a special mention. The price was given by Marc Frederix, marketing director of the National Lottery.

Hunger, the poignant debute of brittish artist Steve McQueen wins the Xplore Award of the 35th Ghent International Film Festival. The young XploreZone jury give a special mention to Worlds Apart by danish director Niels Arden Oplev.
