Ghent Int'l Film Fest kicks of with The Misfortunates 07 Oct 2009
The 36th Filmfestival of Ghent has started with the premiere of The Misfortunates by Felix van Groeningen in 6 screening rooms. In total 3000 persons attended, 2300 guest at the Kinepolis and 700 spectators at the Vooruit in the presence of the whole crew.
36th Ghent International Film Festival is succesfully halfway 11 Oct 2009
After 6 days, the 36th Ghent International Film Festival is succesfully halfway so it is time for a round-up. With an overwhelming attention of the media and nothing than positive reactions we can say that the opening film The Misfortunates was a real succes. But also the other screenings are doing well. And it is not finished yet!! Tonight we will be enjoying the concert of Kevin Costner at the Handelbeurs. On Wednesday 14th of October the french composer Alexander Desplat and the Traffic Quintet pay a musical tribute to the mythical women called "Divine Féminin. The japanese composer Shigeru Umebayashi will enchant us on the 15th of October with two concerts in Vooruit. Andy Garcia will present on the 16th of October his film City Island. And last but not least, the french composer Alexandre Desplat will close the festival after de World Soundtrack Awards.
A Gentle Creature by Marc Roels - Best Belgian Short Film 2009 12 Oct 2009
Marc Roels has won the National Lottery Price for his short film A Gentle Creature at Ghent International Film Festival. The price was given by the Flemish Minister Joke Schauvliege at the annual celebration of the "Cinema Professionals" during the Ghent Film Festival.
Eyes Wide Open wins the Grand Prize for Best Film 14 Oct 2009
Eyes Wide Open by the Israelian director Haim Tabakman wins the Grand Prize for the Best Film at the 36th Ghent International Film Festival. This was announced this Wednesday 14th of October by the International Jury at the town hall of Ghent. Other awards went to Zion and his Brother (Best Script), A Rational Solution (Best Music) and the short film Amor by Thomas Wangsmo.
Young jury gives Mine Xplore Award to Ajami 15 Oct 2009
The jury of the youngsters of the Ghent Film Festival gives the Mine Xplore Award to the Israelian film Ajami of the directors Scandar Copti & Yaron Shani. The distributor will get a free media campaign in the daily De Morgen and on the radio Studio Brussel with a value of 20.000 euro and an amount of 6.000 cash money given by Mine/BNP Paribas Fortis. A L'ouest de Pluton received a Special Mention.
Joseph Plateau Honorary Award for Andy García 16 Oct 2009
American actor and producer Andy García received a Joseph Plateau Honorary Award at the festival, before the screening of City Island. His daugher and actress Dominik García-Lorido together with director Raymond De Felitta joined him for the occasion.Look at the photos.

Children have been killed and injured - many are in desperate need of clean water, shelter and medical help. Early reports indicate a large number of casualties and widespread damage.
Ghent Film Festival pays tribute to Tati in an exceptional exhibition 18 Jun 2010
More than 60 years after Jacques Tati's first feature film, the Ghent Film Festival wants to give the French director, actor and comedian a worthy tribute. In order to bring the world of Tati fully to life, the Province of East Flanders is putting on the exhibition 'JACQUES TATI: In Double Quick Time' in the Caermersklooster - Provincial Cultural Centre on the initiative of and in collaboration with the Ghent Film Festival. It will be produced by the Cinemathèque Française in collaboration with Les Films de Mon Oncle. The exhibition will run from 15 October 2010 to 16 January 2011.
37th Ghent Film Festival announces opening film Madly in Love 26 Aug 2010
The opening film of the 37th Ghent Film Festival is director Hilde Van Mieghem's new film, Madly In Love. In this romantic comedy Van Mieghem focuses on the turbulent love lives of four women living together, played by Veerle Dobbelaere, Wine Dierickx, Marie Vinck and Aline Van Hulle. Their male counterparts are Koen De Bouw, Koen De Graeve, Kevin Janssens, Jan Decleir and Huub Stapel.
