Film Fest Ghent supplements screenings in theaters with a VOD platform

Film Fest Ghent will reach further then ever by launching a brandnew online VOD platform. During the festival period, film fans, based in Belgium, can watch and experience 60 full-length films - about half of the entire FFG2020 offer - at home too. These films are also supplemented with pre-recorded Q&As with filmmakers and actors who are unable to come to Ghent due to Covid-19.
47th Film Fest Ghent kicked off, with and without alcohol

No traditional opening reception, but lots of liquor and above all a lot of cinephile entertainment. That is how the opening night of Film Fest Ghent on Tuesday 13 October can be summarized. With Thomas Vinterberg's opening film Drunk, Belgium's biggest film festival has got off to a flying start. In a safe and corona-proof setting, 110 feature films and 32 short films will be screened on the wide-screen over the next ten days. There are also VIDEODROOM concerts at Kunstencentrum Vooruit and the festival will close with a special anniversary edition of the 20th World Soundtrack Awards, on Saturday 24 October.

Viggo Mortensen received the Joseph Plateau Honorary Award 2020 in Ghent on Sunday 18 October. With this prize for his full oeuvre, Film Fest Ghent honours his impressive track record as an actor, now director and his eminent contribution to the art of filmmaking. He received the award from the hands of Film Fest Ghent programme director Wim De Witte before the Belgian premiere of his directorial debut Falling.
'Tussen de bijen en de tarbot', 'Versailles' and 'Perpetual Night' are awarded at Film Fest Ghent

'Tussen de bijen en de tarbot', the poetic animated short by Linnea Lidegran Correia (KASK) received the Award for Best Belgian Student Short at the closing evening of the short film weekend at Film Fest Ghent. The winner of the ACE Image Factory & The Fridge Audience Award for Best Belgian Short is 'Versailles' by Hyun Lories. 'Perpetual Night' by Pedro Peralta won the Best International Short Award.
