In October 2023, Film Fest Gent - Belgium’s largest international film festival - will be celebrating its 50th anniversary edition. Entering a new era, the festival has unveiled its new branding, embracing the bold identity that has been its hallmark from the beginning.

For those who have been visiting the festival for many years, the horse of FFG has become a familiar icon, closely connected with film history and the history of the University of Ghent. With this in mind, the horse needed reinvention.

We are thrilled to announce the Animated AR Portraits Open Call, organized by Mai Animation VZW in collaboration with Animated W/World and Film Fest Gent. At this landmark edition of Film Fest Gent, we aim to celebrate the power of animation and the diverse voices that enrich the creative landscape. Scores from world-renowned video games such as The Legend of Zelda, The Last of Us, Final Fantasy VII and more are set to be performed by Brussels Philharmonic during the concert PRESS PLAY: Music in Games on Thursday 19 October 2023 at Film Fest Gent. The festival - home to the World Soundtrack Awards - announced the concert and its host, composer Austin Wintory, back in March, and now releases the first line-up of the night, including the first-ever orchestral live performance of Lena Raine’s score for indie hit Celeste.

Cinea and Film Fest Gent proudly present the 10th Young Critics Workshop (October 10 – 21, 2023) by photogénie, open to aspiring film critics (aged 18-26) from Belgium and abroad, offering them the opportunity to cover the 50th edition of this major international event, ranked among the top European film festivals.

Multi-instrumentalist & composer Eiko Ishibashi and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ryûsuke Hamaguchi have teamed up once again following their successful collaboration on the critically acclaimed feature film Drive My Car. This new film, titled Gift and written and directed by Hamaguchi, will world premiere with a live score performed by Ishibashi at Film Fest Gent in the VIDEODROOM programme, a partnership between the festival and Arts Centre VIERNULVIER.
