Film Fest Gent steps outside the cinema walls! In collaboration with several partners in Ghent, the festival will screen films outdoors and at surprising locations. Moreover, the screenings will be accompanied by music, talents and food.
FFG Offroad - Cidade de Deus

On 11 May, you can watch Cidade de Deus (City of God), a film by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund, for free in an open-air setting. Join us for this open-air screening, hosted by Film Fest Gent, Jeugdhuis Nieuw Gent, and Circusplaneet vzw, at the Titannick site in Nieuw Gent. Additionally, expect a supporting act featuring live music by local talent and more!

Philippe Rombi is guest of honour at the 24th World Soundtrack Awards

Film Fest Gent is proud to welcome French film composer, pianist and conductor Philippe Rombi as guest of honour at the 24th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards. Rombi’s work can be heard in the majority of François Ozon’s films; their collaborations include Swimming Pool, Jeune et jolie, Potiche and most recently Mon crime. Other popular film scores are Joyeux Noël, directed by Christian Carion, comedies like Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis and Rien à déclarer, both directed by Dany Boon and Le Temps des secrets, directed by Christophe Barratier. His work has been recognised numerous times by the César Awards and Lumière Awards in his native France and by the International Film Music Critics Association.
Film Fest Gent presents James Horner Tribute Concert

On 17 October 2024, Film Fest Gent will pay tribute to the legendary American composer James Horner with a unique night filled with his iconic scores. A selection of his work will be curated with the assistance of Simon Franglen. The World Soundtrack Award for Discovery of the Year 2023 recipient was an integral part of Horner's team on the scores for among others Titanic and Avatar. Maestro Dirk Brossé will lead the Brussels Philharmonic in this musical celebration. “James Horner was one of the icons of film music, a man who created some of the most memorable and emotional scores we have ever heard.”

American composer Elliot Goldenthal will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 24th World Soundtrack Awards, Film Fest Gent’s annual film music prizes. Most renowned for his Oscar, Golden Globe, and WSA-winning score for Frida, Goldenthal’s career encompasses a rich variety of film scores, including Interview with the Vampire, Heat, Batman Forever, Michael Collins, Titus, and Across the Universe.
