Oscar winner to share the stage with Elvis's composers

At the 5th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards Oscar winner Rachel Portman will share the stage with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Elvis Presley's legendary composers and songwriters. Our very own Raymond van het Groenewoud will also provide musical fireworks in Concert Hall "De Bijloke". Finally, Gustavo Santaolalla will also be performing live.

32nd Flanders Film Festival focuses on Russia

This year the festival's theme is threefold. It concentrates by tradition on film music, leaving room for two other themes: Russian movies and social commitment in cinema. The latter themes are clearly illustrated by this year's visual: matryoshkas some of which have their eyes wide open while others are blindfolded or gagged.

De Bloedbruiloft, (War Moon) Dominique Deruddere's latest movie after "Lune De Guerre" from Hermann & Van Hamme, will make the closing night of The International Film Festival Flanders-Ghent's 32nd Edition (October 11-October 22). The movie will be screened at the Kinepolis Complex, October 22nd.
Peter Vermeersch & Flat Earth Society to accompany The Oyster Princess live

On October 7, 2005, Peter Vermeersch will for the first time perform his new soundtrack for The Oyster Princess, a silent film by legendary filmmaker Ernst Lubitsch. This world premier at the Vooruit Arts Centre is a co-production between the npo Bonk, the Festival of Flanders-Ghent & the Historic Cities, the International Film Festival of Flanders, Kunstencentrum Vooruit, Motives Festival Genk, Opéra National de Paris and de Singel.

The World Soundtrack Academy releases the list of nominees for the three principal categories in the World Soundtrack Awards, the most pre-eminent international prizes for the recognition of film music: Soundtrack Composer of the Year, Best Original Soundtrack of the Year - Orchestral and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film. The names of the winners will be announced in Ghent on Saturday, October 15.

The 32nd edition of The Flanders International Film Festival will be dedicated to Robert Wise, the Producer-Director of West Side Story and The Sound of Music, who passed away, Wednesday September 14, just after becoming 91. The former President of the Festival's International Jury was a good friend of Jacques Dubrulle, the President and animator of the Festival. In that way the whole team of the festival wanted to share the condolences with the deceased's family and pay this Hollywood giant himself a well deserved tribute.
