‘Small Things Like These’ by Tim Mielants to open 51st edition Film Fest Gent

Small Things Like These, Belgian director Tim Mielants’ third feature, is the official opening film of Film Fest Gent 2024 and will kick off the 51st edition on Wednesday 9 October. The subdued yet poignant drama starring Oscar winner Cillian Murphy tells the story of a coal merchant in 1980s Ireland who discovers the local convent’s shocking secret.
'Julie Keeps Quiet' set for Belgian premiere at Film Fest Gent 2024

Leonardo van Dijl's debut film Julie Keeps Quiet met and exceeded all expectations in Cannes, and will have its Belgian premiere at the 51st edition of Film Fest Gent in October. The gripping, subdued drama about a talented tennis player also made a strong impression at the international film festivals of Karlovy Vary, Melbourne, Sarajevo and New Horizons and will soon travel to the prestigious Toronto Film Festival.
Elliot Goldenthal: Music for Film

Film Fest Gent proudly presents Elliot Goldenthal: Music for Film, the film festival’s 2024 album with all-new studio recordings of selected scores by Elliot Goldenthal. In October, the composer of Frida and Heat, among others, will be awarded the WSA Lifetime Achievement Award for his flourishing career.
Film Fest Gent & S.M.A.K. put time on hold with Tsai Ming-liang's Walker series

During the 51st edition of Film Fest Gent - and long after, until 9 March 2025 - the film festival and S.M.A.K. together present the work of celebrated Malaysian-Taiwanese filmmaker Tsai Ming-liang with the screening of the full Walker series which includes ten films made by the director between 2012 and 2024. The tenth and perhaps final film, Abiding Nowhere, will have its Belgian premiere at FFG.
