Merry Christmas to be the opening film of the 32nd Flanders Film Festival

The film Merry Christmas, a tragicomedy based on a true story from World War I, is to be the opening film of the 32nd Flanders international Film Festival - Ghent (11-22 October). This film, a European co-production, will be screened on Tuesday 11 October at the Kinepolis cinema in Ghent in the presence of director Christian Carion, the actrice Diane Krüger and producer Christophe Rossignon.

From 11 through 22 October, the spotlight will once again be on Ghent. This is when the 32nd edition of the Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent is taking place. Special attention will be paid to Russia and recent Russian cinema. Activism in the cinema will also be given a place of honour. The highlight of the latter section is "Fusebox" in the Arts Centre Vooruit, featuring Patti Smith and Tom Verlaine. Other important guests at the 32nd Flanders International Film Festival - Ghent are: David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence), François Ozon and Jeanne Moreau (Le Temps Qui Reste), Mike Leigh and Imelda Staunton, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Victoria Abril and Zbigniew Preisner.
Festival Film wins Dutch youth price

The Dutch youth film Het Paard van Sinterklaas, that has its Belgian premiere at the Film Festival Ghent, has just won the price for best youth film at the Film festival of Utrecht. The childrens jury said the film was 'funny and moving'.

Badalamenti Best Composer at World Soundtrack Awards 2005

Angelo Badalamenti, for his score for Un Long Dimanche de Fianciailles is the winner of the 'Soundtrack Composer of the Year' Award. These prestigious film music prizes were distributed this Saturday October 15, for the fifth time on a row during the Flanders International Film Festival Ghent. The music of War of the Worlds by John Williams received the Prize for Best Original Soundtrack of the Year and Old Habbits Die Hard by Dave Stewart & Mick Jagger from Alfie was recognized for the Award for 'Best Original Song Written for Film'.

On Saturday October 22, 2005, Dominique Deruddere, member of the International Jury announced the list of prize winners. The ceremony was followed by the première of Dominique Deruddere's film The Wedding Party (De Bloedbruiloft).
European Film Music Concert in World Premiere in Berlin

The First European Film Concert will take place in Berlin on Friday December 2nd. This is a joint organization of the World Soundtrack Academy from the Flanders International Film Festival Ghent and the European Film Academy. Topcomposers as Gabriel Yared, Zbigniew Preisner and Maurice Jarre will carry this concert skyhigh.
